Comment Policy

Just so that everyone is clear, here is the comment policy for this site. I’ll keep it as concise as possible.

First of all, I moderate every comment. The purpose of this is not to stifle discourse. I will happily publish people who disagree with me. In fact, listening with an open mind even to things I find reprehensible is a core value of mine, and I continue it on this blog. However, there is no need to subject my readers to any of the following:

• Spam: Seriously, fuck off. Make sure any link is relevant to the topic at hand.
• Trolls: If you have a point to make, fine. But deliberately inflammatory comments will never see the light of day.
• Hate speech or threats: Neither is acceptable, and I’ll happily report you to the authorities.
• Poor writing: This is a writing blog, folks. If your post is rife with errors, I may not want it to pollute the waters of our discourse.

And that’s about it. If your comment doesn’t get through, feel free to reach out to me. Keep in mind, however, that this is my house. Freedom of speech entitles you to speak free of government persecution, but it does not compel me to print trollery. If you feel strongly enough about a comment that I don’t let through, go ahead and start your own damn blog.

So if you want your comments to get through follow these simple rules: express yourself clearly and don’t be an asshole. Do that and we’ll get along fine, even if we disagree.
